Vote for Your Community Hero

ANDERSON, Ind. (Oct. 4, 2010) - As part of Ameriana Bank's 120 Year Celebration, Ameriana is hosting a Community Hero Contest.  Throughout the last two weeks, community members have submitted their nominations for Anderson's top community hero, and now Ameriana is proud to announce four nominations in Anderson's Community Hero Contest:

• Jan Ault was nominated for her dedication to helping animals.  Ault rescues stray, lost, abused and neglected animals, and has a radio spot on 1240 AM WHBU on Saturday mornings dedicated to animal care and welfare called "Critter Conversations."
• Melvin "Bud" Biddle was nominated for his service to the United States military during World War II.  He is one of 550 Medal of Honor recipients and the only one living in Indiana.
• Captain Todd Jordan was nominated for his commitment to the Anderson Fire Department, where he is an instructor, is on the dive team and is a K-9 handler.  In addition, Jordan volunteers for the Ski Patrol at Perfect North Slopes and is president of the Fire Fighters' Union.
• Merry Melton was nominated for her involvement with organizing the Bowling Special Olympics in Anderson for 55 years.  The event has grown from a few people to more than 150 participants.  Melton has also served as coordinator for the Madison County Special Olympics and as a swim coach, track coach and bowling coach.

Visit Ameriana Bank, located at 1724 East 53rd Street, until October 15 to vote for the Anderson Community Hero.  Ameriana will donate $250 to the charity of the winner's choice.  Cast votes by filling out a paper ballot, which will be counted as one vote, or by submitting a non-perishable food item for Ameriana to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank, which will count as five votes.  Each person can only cast one ballot, or donation, per day.  The winner will be announced October 16, 2010.  For more information about Ameriana's Community Hero contest speak with an Ameriana associate at 642-1726.
